John Norman Hulderman passed away peacefully at Mesa Manor Care Center on December 3, 2020. He was born in Los Angeles, California on January 12, 1930 to Harlan and Norma Hulderman. He was 90 years old.
John, his parents, and two brothers lived in Eagle Rock, California. He and his brothers also enjoyed summers in the Palmdale area in California on his aunt and uncle’s modest ranch.
John served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1955 to 1959 while working and studying to become a surveyor. He worked 31 years as a Licensed Surveyor for the City of Los Angeles. He retired in the position of Party Chief.
John married his wife, Dolores, in 1968 and they lived with their blended family in Granada Hills, California. Upon John’s retirement, he and Dolores moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. In 2016, they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado to be near family. John and Dolores were married 52 years.
John enjoyed camping and fishing, tennis, target archery, and woodwork--making beautiful furniture pieces. He had an interest in model trains and made a very intricate-to-scale model of a farming country scene. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica while accompanying Dolores’ singing career.
John is survived by his wife, Dolores; brother, Roy Hulderman; son, Gary Zink; daughters, Barbara (Dan) Lindsley of Syracuse, New York, and Terry Stegman of Phoenix, Arizona; and 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Beverly, and his eldest brother, George.
John will lovingly be remembered as a good husband, a good father, and a good man.
