John Peterson

John J Peterson, age 79, died on the 31st of May 2022, following his battle with cancer.

Born on August 15th, 1942, in Grand Junction CO, he was the son of the late Liebert and Hazel Peterson. John graduated from Grand Junction high school in 1960. He attended Western Colorado University, and graduated with a bachelors in Mathematics and Statistics in 1965.

John was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Vietnam era. During his tenure in the armed forces, he received training in computers which sparked a career in the technology field. John had been employed as a scientific programmer and database administrator for over 50 years.

John was a member of a church in every town he lived and is now in the presence of God. He was a member of several gem and mineral clubs and an avid rockhound. He loved sports, fishing, gardening, and lapidary work. During his life, he enjoyed working in his orchards and relished a good peach. He was a competitive spirit and loved playing games with family and friends.

He valued his friendships and was a bit of a jokester. He prided himself of being there when needed for anyone in his life. His hardworking attitude and persistence to do the right thing was known and felt by many.

John was preceded in death by Hazel and Liebert Peterson and brother Richard Peterson. John is survived by his wife Roxanna Peterson, daughters Pamela Willis and Mary Aesoph, grandson James Aesoph, and three sisters Judy McFarland, Penny Collins, and Kathy Lasby.

A Memorial Service will be held July 14th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Landmark Baptist Church located at 1600 Ute Avenue in Grand Junction, Colorado 81501.

A VA Honors Service will be held July 14th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
