John Sullivan

June 20, 1939 — March 7, 2021

John was the oldest son of Margaret and John P. Sullivan, born in Anaconda, Montana.

Hitchhiking from Anaconda to Butte, Montana on July 22, 1957, he joined the Navy.  Pearl Harbor was his home during four years active duty as a “Tin Can Soldier” on the USS Radford DD-446 Destroyer.

In 1970, shortly after receiving BA in Economics/Computers, he left California for Australia to work at the Remote Radar Satellite Tracking Station in Woomera.

John stayed in Australia until 1994, lecturing and teaching at the South Australian institute of Business and Technology.  He retired from teaching at age 55, returned to the USA and worked for Mesa County IT until December 2010.

John’s love of sports began in his hometown, where he was known as “Johnny” and played basketball, baseball and football.  He was a lifelong NY Yankees fan.  Inspired by his son Steve, he began golf in 1992.  John played in both Lincoln Park and Tiara Rado Men’s Clubs.

Fishing Rock Creek for trout, held a joy like no other for John.

John’s daughter, Debi,  was born in Oahu.  His sons, Nick and Steve, in Australia.  His son Nick, brother Bobby Joe and parents preceded him in death.  Surviving are his son  Steve (Malin) of Germany, his wife Barbara and step-daughter Pam (Alan).  He has four grandchildren: Matilda, Isabel, Joseph and Nicklas.
