John Tyler

December 30, 1931 — September 10, 2017

John William Tyler was born in Sulphur, Oklahoma on December 30, 1931, to Charles Henry Tyler and Virginia Dare Lowrance Tyler. He was the oldest of 3 children…..a big brother to sister Charlene, and brother Mark. He attended Carlsbad High School in New Mexico, and studied Police Science at Cerritos College, in Norwalk, California.

He was a veteran in the US Army, having served in the Korean War and also in the post World War II cleanup in the 50s. He enjoyed a yearly reunion gathering with his patrol unit until recently.

While he was in the service, he married Patsy Louise Graham, and fathered two children, Erica and Shannon. A subsequent marriage to Betty Deschamp produced three more children – Jonna (Joe), Shawn (Lisa), and Jan (Bill). His third wife, Peggy, preceded him in death in 1986. A fourth marriage to Sonja Kitts brought 3 stepchildren into the fold, Rino, Sylvia, and Allen (Marilyn).

All together, John has celebrated the births of 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. His many nieces and nephews were devoted to him as well…… most especially Dalene and Jim Smith, Tim Leister, and Liane and Bobby Mast.

John retired from the California Highway Patrol in 1985, and moved to Colorado to follow his dream. Eventually, most of his family followed. He was dedicated to his family, and was always there to help in whatever way he could.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Dare Lowrance Tyler; his father, Charles Henry Tyler, his brother, Mark Tyler; his sister, Charlene Leister. There were also 2 infant grandchildren who didn’t survive birth…. Little angels whom I am sure were there to greet him as he passed through the veil.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja Tyler; his daughters, Erica, Shannon, Jonna, and Jan, and his son, Shawn. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Allen, Sylvia and Rino.

Cremation will take place at Brown’s Cremation and Funeral Services.

There are no services planned. At some point in the near future, his ashes will be scattered per his wishes.
