Jonnie “Jon” Argel Duncan, 74, passed away on December 9, 2020 in Grand Junction from heart disease. Jon was born on August 1, 1946 in Daggerton, Utah. He attended Fruita-area schools beginning in kindergarten and graduated in 1964. He served in the US Air Force from 1964-1968. Jon’s love of flying led him to a career as a helicopter and airplane pilot for numerous companies, including National Geographic and a Georgia news station. Among his accomplishments were graduating from Georgia State University, modeling in Japan, earning a black belt in Karate, being Burt Reynolds’ body double in the movie, Sharky’s Machine, and climbing Mt. Fuji. However, his three children were his greatest accomplishments.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Opal Duncan; his sister, Dorothy “Tookie” Street; and his son, Roger Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his son, Kevin Duncan (Sharon); his daughter, Noelle Ponder (TJ); 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 niece, and 2 nephews.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on June 8, 2021 at the VA Memorial Cemetery (under the shelter) in Grand Junction with a reception following at the home of Roger and Joanne Graham.
