Joyce Gillooly of Fruita passed away on August 7, 2024 after complications from surgery in Denver Colorado. She was 88. She was born in Binghamton, New York to Michael and Elizabeth Kostick.
She spent many years in the upstate New York area and including working as an administrative assistant at Cornell University in Ithaca. Later, Joyce married James Gillooly on October 12, 1974. In June 1981 they moved to Colorado with their two youngest daughters. They operated two businesses in Colorado which Joyce managed all of the books and business records.
In retirement Joyce discovered a love for line dancing and was a member of the Fruita Troupers for many years. She also participated in the Senior Games in several events. Joyce also loved Elvis Presley 50s/60s rock and roll as well as country music. Joyce and Jim also traveled, enjoying going to Hawaii, Alaskan cruises and a Canadian Rockies train trip.
Joyce was proceeded in death by her parents, Michael and Elizabeth, her husband James and brother Michael. She is survived by brother Ronald, daughters Cindi (Dave), Sherry, and Janel (John), son Thomas, grandchildren Debby, Justin, and Derek, six greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, October 1st at 10am at Brown’s Cremation and Memorial Service Chapel. Internment Ceremony will follow at Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Denver Hospice or to the Grand Junction Elk’s Lodge #575 in Joyce’s memory.
