Kenneth Wayne Hill

December 4, 1951 — August 5, 2024

Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Hill, born on December 4th, 1951 in LaGrande, Oregon to Wayne and Lucille Hill, returned home to Jesus Christ to begin his Eternal life on August 5th, while resting peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

He moved to Grand Junction, Colorado shortly after birth and graduated from Central High School before attending Utah State University where he played football. On August 5th, 52 years to the day, of 1972 Kenny married his highschool sweetheart and lifelong partner Carlie Jo Hill with whom he shared a loving marriage. Together they had four children: Coby, Barry, Trent, and Tyson.

Kenny began his career at D&RGW leading up to retirement from Union Pacific Railroad. Kenny was known for being a relaxed, caring, and quiet individual with a competitive nature that drove him towards success. His passion for sports shown through as a multi-sport athlete; however it was football that truly captured his heart - earning him the title of #2 ranked running back in the state of Colorado. Beyond playing himself, Kenny’s love for sports extended into coaching within the community where he became well-known as an incredibly successful coach both in football and little league baseball – guiding multiple teams to State Championships.

In addition to his accomplishments in sports and career, Kenny’s love for Christ was a guiding force throughout his life. He exemplified the teachings of Jesus through acts of kindness, compassion, and selflessness. His unwavering faith served as an inspiration to those around him, demonstrating the power of forgiveness and unconditional love. Kenny lived by example, always extending a helping hand to those in need and spreading joy wherever he went. His devotion to Christ not only shaped his character but also touched the lives of countless individuals who were fortunate enough to know him personally or be influenced by his actions.

He is survived by his wife Carlie, sons Coby (Katie) , Barry (Kari), Trent (Karie), and Tyson (Jen), and Grandchildren, Caleb, Caden, Avalyn, Kalden, Kiersten, Kylie, Austin, Ryder, Bentley, Beckett, and Cooper all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Wayne, his Mother Lucille, and his brother Rodney.

The Hill Family would like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Patty at Tender Hearts Health Care and Hopewest Hospice for their unwavering support in providing comfort and care during his final months. We also extend a special thank you to Brian and Nick from SummitWest Care for their patience and dedication with helping him through physical therapy sessions.
