Kenneth W. Kinucan, of Grand Junction CO, was born November 3, 1937 to Kenneth W. and Ruth (Beers) Kinucan in Santa Monica, CA. He died December 31, 2019. Ken was raised in North Hollywood, and was an outdoorsman, naturalist, creative artist and a highly skilled taxidermist. He earned Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in natural sciences, sociology and anthropology from California State University, Los Angeles. He worked seven years as a naturalist-preparator at the McCurdy Nature Center in Pasadena, CA, and was Director of Environmental Studies for the Sun Valley Creative Arts Center in Sun Valley, ID. For many years he managed the University of Idaho Clark Fork Field Campus. He served six years in the Army National Guard. Ken loved to hike, hunt and fish. He treasured sharing his knowledge of nature, wildlife and ecology with others, as demonstrated by the numerous ecological exhibits he created for museums and educational facilities. Ken was known for his passion for animals, particularly dogs, and adopted many in need of a good home. Ken and his wife, Edie, were known as good friends and enthusiastic naturalists in the communities they adopted in California, Idaho and Montana.
He is proceeded in death by his wife of 44 years, Edith S. Kinucan, his parents and brother John. He is survived by his sons, Robert (Kristie) and Mark (Andrea), and grandchildren, Paige (Matthew Chavez) and Erin.
Memorial donations may be made to a preferred animal rescue organization.
