Kenneth LeRoy Peterson, age 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 25, 2016 at the Palisade Living Center. He was born May 28, 1945, in Palisade, CO., the second child of John Munro and Edna Mae (Herman) Peterson. He attended East Carbon High School in Sunnyside, UT. He married his high school sweetheart Ruth Anne Poulsen on September 8, 1962. Together they had 4 children, Patti Lynn, Kenneth “Mark”, Jeffrey LeRoy, and Steven James. In 1967 he moved his wife and 2 young children to Basalt, CO., where he worked on the construction of the Ruedi Dam and the westbound bore of the Eisenhower Tunnel. The family moved to Grand Junction, CO., in 1969, where he began his long career as a concrete contractor. For several years, he also loved selling fresh cut Christmas trees in the family front yard during the holiday season. He had many friends throughout the years and was loved by many. In high school he was voted “Best Personality” and was usually the life of the party. We will miss hearing those (mostly made up) funny stories and cuss-word filled one-liners, the most appropriate of which was “watch out for the crazies!” He loved playing pool and just about any card game and liked to hunt and fish.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Munro Peterson, his mother Edna Mae (Herman) Newland, his sister Bonnie Jean Peterson, Ruth Anne Poulsen, and his son Kenneth “Mark” Peterson. He is survived by his daughter Patti Lynn (Todd) Binkley, Grand Junction, CO, his sons Jeffrey LeRoy (Stephanie) Peterson, Springhill TN., and, Steven James (Sarah) Peterson, Grand Junction, CO., and his eleven grandchildren, Brandyn Todd and Katelynn McKenzie Binkley, Elizabeth Anne, Tanner Kenneth (TaNisha Serrano), Marisa Marie, and Mavric Mark Peterson, Hunter Scott, Madelynn Ruthanne, and Baylee Marie Peterson, Sophia Ann and, SJ Peterson and his three Great grandchildren Landon Oliver and Hazel Elizabeth Drudge and Khaleesi Camill Peterson.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, nurses and doctors at Palisade Living Center and DaVita Dialysis Center. Per his wishes, no services are planned.
