Fun-loving, unpretentious, lover of a great party and instigator of pranks, ugly tie contest reigning champion, Larry McDonald, passed away on March 16 after holding off cancer for a decade. Larry brought enthusiasm, if not talent, to singing and dancing. He mastered Halloween --transforming a vacuum into E.T., bagels into Princess Leia’s braids, and a muff into a headless cat. He calculated a one pie per person ratio at Thanksgiving and chased adventures in the outdoors. He giggled nearly every day of his life.
Larry loved helping others. He volunteered with the homeless, donated to food banks, and fundraised for orphans. He used his education in finance from the University of Denver to help moderate income families find affordable housing and small businesses access funding. He welcomed all races, religions, and sexual orientations into his home. His wife of 53 years, Ann McDonald; his four children, Maureen, Marti, Kathleen, and Grant; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Sue McDonald; his son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Timothy Mess and Carol Betancourt; and his grandsons, Philip and George Mess will mark his memory with conga lines and a limbo contest. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choosing or HopeWest Hospice.
