Laurie Kunze (Darley)

Laurie Kunze, age 64, died after a three week battle with COVID-19, on March 15, 2021.

Laurie was born to Dr. and Mrs. Alfred S. Darley on May 19, 1956, in Grand Junction.  She graduated from GJHS in 1974, and attended St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas and the University of Denver, studying library science.  She completed a BA degree at Mesa State College (now CMU) in 1991.

Laurie married Horst W. Kunze February 25, 1996.  She worked in the Mesa County Assessor’s office for 27 years until retirement in August 2019.  Laurie was actively involved with serving on the board of directors at the Seventh Day Adventist church, as well as teaching Sabbath school classes until her death.

Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Dr. A. S. Darley in 1985, and her beloved husband Horst Kunze on June 21, 2002.  Survivors include her mother, Patricia Darley, as well as sisters Sharon Patton (Don), Janet Alcon (Eloy), and brother Richard Darley (Claudia).

A Celebration of Life will be held for Laurie at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 550 25-1/2 Road in Grand Junction, on March 31 at 7:00 pm.
