Louis Castaldo

January 2, 1943 — November 11, 2022

Louis Castaldo, age 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2022 after a long battle with kidney disease and COPD.

Born on January 2, 1943 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Dr. Louis Castaldo and Josephine Lanese Castaldo.

He graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in Education and then attended the University of Connecticut’s Law School. In addition to teaching English at The Milford Academy in Milford, CT he was an avid songwriter, musician, artist, and athlete. He enjoyed baseball and football in his younger years; he was a true nature lover and very active in water sports, camping, hiking, and skiing. In the 80’s he moved from the East Coast to Basalt where he was part owner of the Midland Bar and Café for 10 years, then moved to Carbondale, CO where he spent over 30 years enjoying life in the Colorado Rockies.

Those who “experienced” Lou will never forget his incredible sense of humor, endless creativity, fearlessness, unique sense of style, undying charisma, and his loving heart.

Lou is survived by his brother Richard Castaldo and his sister Marianne Castaldo of Grand Junction, CO, his brother and sister-in-law James and Bozena Castaldo of Brooklyn, NY, his favorite uncle Thomas Lanese of Fairfield, CT, his ex-wife Josie Kahn of Greenwich, CT and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of Lou’s life and spirit will be held this coming spring when the snow melts. If you would like to attend please email his sister Marianne at marecolorado@gmail.com and we will notify you of the date, place and time.
