Louis Charles (Charlie) Miller, age 88, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Charlie was born February 16, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the son of the late L.R. and Gladys Miller. Charles graduated from Southwest High in St. Louis, Mo. He received his bachelors of journalism from the University of Missouri, and his Phd. (English Literature and Creative Writing) from the University of Iowa. He was a Veteran of the US Army, artillery division, having served as a 1st Lieutenant. He had been stationed in Germany for much of his service (1954-1956). Charles was a professor of English at Western State College for 30 years, (1960-1990). As a teacher, he worked in many advisory capacities with students, as well as teaching in the classroom. For a number of years before retirement he served as Dean of Core Curriculum Studies. Charles had many interests: Writing (novels and short stories), fishing (especially fly fishing),hiking, skiing (cross country) and golfing. He was fond of old movies, early Dixieland jazz, early country music and playing the guitar. Traveling was a favorite recreation, and family life was always a priority. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, L.R., his mother, Gladys and his brother Robert. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Marlene of Grand Junction, He was the devoted father of Clayton Miller and his wife Darrah of Gunnison, Co, Daughter Amy Miller of Grand Junction and beloved grandfather of Bryce and Brandon Miller both of Gunnison, Co. He is also survived by many other cherished family members, Brothers- in- law, Sisters-In-Law as well as many Nieces and Nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019, 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Browns Cremation and Funeral Service, 904 N. 7th Street, Grand Junction, Co.
