Lyman Hubbard Jr.

Lyman (Kelly) Lewis Hubbard Jr. was born November 12, 1938, to Lyman (Sie) Lewis Hubbard Sr. and Mildred Rebecca Hubbard in Grand Junction, CO. He was raised on the family beef cattle ranch in Gateway, CO. He graduated from Gateway School in 1956. He married JaNella Palmer September 12, 1964. The couple had four children and a bonus son, Tracy Glassel (Skip), Virginia Kunkle (Larry), Jody (Maggie) Plaster, Douglas Hubbard (Jacki), Roger Long. Kelly was the proud grandpa, “Papa”, of five grandsons and four great grandchildren Gavin (Ty) Glassel (Nicole), Matthew Hubbard (Jayme), Kolby Monson, Joshua Plaster, Jacob Plaster, Kylie, Elliot, Nathaniel, and Lillee.

Kelly valued hard work and was a man of many talents. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army. He generously volunteered his time and talents to his community. He worked on the family ranch, mined Uranium from the Hubbard Mine, built “The Plunge” ski run in Telluride CO, was the lead diesel mechanic at the Sunnyside Gold Mine, and he owned and operated a drilling and blasting company. He helped with the construction of the Wayside Chapel in Gateway. He was instrumental in procuring the funding for the current Gateway Community Center. He provided the dynamite and his time building and placing targets at the Gateway Volunteer Fire Department biannual fundraiser for 70 years.

Kelly passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 4, 2022. He was proceeded in death by both his parents and his brother James O. Hubbard. He is survived by his sister Marilyn Colcord, brother William Hubbard, and sister Carolyn Williams.
