Manuel (Manny) Angel Negrete, age 66, was called to Heaven on May 16, 2023, following a sudden illness.
Born on May 23, 1956, in Sidney, Nebraska, he was the son of Gilbert and Virginia Negrete.
Manny was employed with the Department of Energy in the nuclear division for many years working at Rocky Flats, Yucca Mountain, and lastly at the Nevada Test Site. Manny retired in 2022. Manny held many sensitive positions throughout his career and published several white papers. He was a true patriot and loved his country.
Manny enjoyed sports (Nebraska Cornhuskers, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, San Francisco Giants, and the Vegas Golden Knights). He loved fishing and camping and the outdoors. Since retirement, he especially loved working around on his farm with his John Deere Tractor.
Manny was larger than life. He was outgoing, always the life of the party, and fiercely loved his family. He was always willing to help wherever and whenever he could. He never knew a stranger. Once you met him, he never forgot your name and you were always considered his friend.
Manny was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert. He is survived by his loving soulmate, Dawn; his daughter, Vangeline (Justin) Medina; and stepdaughters, Sarah (Donnie Gentry) and Megan (Dan) Craig. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia, brother Carlos (Loretta), niece Danielle (Grant) Muller, nephew, Andy (Becca) Negrete and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Manny was affectionately called “Papa Bear” by his eight grandchildren: Jacob, Mia, Elena, Andrew, William, Catherine, James, and Gabriel. They were the loves of his life.
The celebration of his life will be scheduled later to be held in Denver, Colorado.
If you would like to make a memorial contribution in his name, please consider the American Cancer Society, Tunnels to Towers, or St Jude’s Hospital. They were charities very near and dear to his heart.
Heaven has gained another special Angel! We will miss him forever!
