Marcia Louise Poutous
October 7, 1954 — May 6, 2024
Marcia Poutous, aged 69, of Aspen, Colorado, passed away on May 6, 2024 with her husband John (LJ) Erspamer and her two sons, Kai Quintan Erspamer and Teo Fabi Anthony Erspamer by her side.
Marcia was born on October 7, 1954 in Lakeside, California, to her parents Arlette Jane (Kaufman) Poutous and John Louis Poutous. She was raised alongside her six siblings and was known for being intelligent, tough, tenacious, and kind. She was widely liked and respected due to her no-nonsense, pragmatic attitude and her drive to support those around her. As a child and teenager, Marcia cultivated a love for horseback riding, badminton, and tennis. She went to Santana High School and then to college to become a legal secretary, a profession that would benefit greatly from her sharp mind and drive for excellence.
Marcia moved to Aspen, Colorado in the 1980s, where she continued to bring joy to her friends and loved ones here. It was here she met her future husband, John Erspamer. The life they built together was further blessed by the arrival of their two sons, Kai and Teo. One of Marcia’s greatest joys was raising her young sons and this continued with the birth of her first granddaughter, Anna Elvira Roen Erspamer, in 2023 to her son Kai and his partner Marte Kapstad Roen from Norway. Marcia spent almost 20 years working at and leading Stewart Title of Aspen and is remembered fondly for her caring, compassionate leadership and pragmatic approach to business.
Marcia was adventurous her entire life, eagerly exploring other countries and seeking new experiences. This included living in Nice, France for a year while her sons went to school there. She was an avid skier and skied deep into the Spring season of 2024. She loved sharing time with friends and loved ones outdoors, hiking and exploring nature as close as Aspen and as far away as Italy and Peru. She also built many close relationships as a general member of the Elks Lodge in Aspen as well as a member of the Elks’ Audit Committee.
Those who knew Marcia will fondly remember her for her kindness, focus on supporting those around her, and the remarkable way she embraced every aspect of life. Marcia’s smile said everything about her positive, loving personality. She saw the best in everyone, never let anything get her down, and always sought the positive in every situation.
Left to honor her memory are her husband, John; her sons, Kai and Teo; her granddaughter, Anna Elvira; along with her sister, brothers, and many loved and cherished friends and relatives. Marcia's tenacious spirit will forever be reflected in the hearts of those who loved her and her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share time with her.
A funeral service will be held on May 13 at 11:00 AM at the Prince of Peace Chapel and a celebration of life will be held from 12:30 PM at the Elks Lodge in Aspen.
