Marilyn Lorraine (Scott) Yoder passed through the gates of heaven on Christmas Eve after a life of service and faith. Marilyn was born to Paul Merton (Francis) Scott and Mary Margaret (Hicks) Scott on May 14th, 1934 in Elwood, Clinton County, Iowa. After graduating from Lost Nation Consolidated (Iowa) in 1952, Marilyn began her life of service by receiving her diploma from the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing in 1955.
In 1954, Marilyn married Gene F. Yoder (1934-2019), they had four children together. Marilyn served as a Registered Nurse for decades eventually retiring from St. Mary’s Hospital of Grand Junction. People in 5 states (Iowa, New Mexico, Utah, Texas, and Colorado) were privileged to have Marilyn as their nurse and she enjoyed learning and being a part of their lives and communities. Marilyn enjoyed traveling and visited almost every state as well as Canada, Mexico, and Morocco.
Marilyn was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and loved serving and being part of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She held offices for the local branch as well as regionally as a Western Zone officer and Rocky Mountain District Convention Chairmen. Marilyn felt sharing the love of Christ was the greatest gift she could every give. She was a Sunday School teacher, and actively supported those who were doing this work worldwide.
She is survived by four children: Christy Moore (Steve) of Grand Junction, Jene Paul Yoder (Rachel) of Rifle, Beth M. Gilleece (Jim) of Montrose, and David G. Yoder of Aurora, her brother, Robert Scott (Carol) of Springfield, MO., her ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Alyce M. Sager McDonald.
One of Marilyn’s greatest joys, beyond many and various family activities, was taking friends and relatives into the Colorado high country on 4 wheel drive trips to see the wildflowers and fall colors. She also enjoyed and supported our local food producer. She felt honored to take visiting friends and family to a fruit stand and show them what a real peach tastes like, especially if they were from Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at the Messiah Church at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29th, 2020.
