Mark Reitz

September 19, 1953 — February 22, 2022

Mark David Reitz, age 68, died February 22nd, 2022, following a brief battle with cancer.

Born September 19th, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Eugene and Margaret Reitz. After high school, Mark joined the US Army, where he served as a medic, a skill he would continue to develop, and achieved the rank of Sergeant. After his time in the service, Mark chose to continue serving his community as an EMT, a position that he was very proud of and spoke of often.

Mark attended college at the University of South Carolina, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. It was while working in this role that Mark met his wife Joanne, and began his family, having a daughter, Lisa, and a son, David. After moving to the Western Slope he began working as a purchasing manager for Mesa County, a position that he held for many years. During this time, Mark found himself busy raising his children, volunteering as a coach for sports teams, and sharing with his children his love for the outdoors.

In retirement, Mark’s chief pleasures were in hunting, fishing, gardening and raising a few cows and chickens. Mark enjoyed spending time outdoors whether at home or in the mountains. To Mark, a successful hunting trip was best described as time spent in the wilderness, relaxing and spending time with his son. Mark spent many happy days with his grandson, Porter, continuing to share his joy of the outdoors and watching Porter discover and experience new things. Mark was thrilled to meet his granddaughter, Kennedy, born shortly before he passed.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Brian.

Mark is survived by his wife, Joanne Reitz, his sister, Kay Reitz, his daughter Lisa Flook (David) of Fruita, CO, his son David Reitz (Amanda) of Delta, CO, and his grandchildren, Porter and Kennedy.

A celebration of life will be planned for this summer.
