Martha Pitts Reece

Martha Jean Pitts Reece, 86, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away Friday December 1, 2023, in Grand Junction, CO. Born May 10, 1937, and raised in Catawba County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late James and Ethel Pitts.

Martha graduated from Fred T. Foard High School in 955 and earned a degree in accounting from Lenair Rhyne College in 1959. The majority of her life was dedicated to raising her three sons and she worked as an accountant until her retirement.

In retirement she enjoyed many hobbies and interests mainly focusing on basket weaving, baking, and volunteering at the Hickory Community Theatre. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hickory for many years and then served as a member at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Hickory until her health deteriorated.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Neil Reece and wife, Lora Beth, of Land O’ Lakes Fla., James Reece and wife, Amanda, of Grand Junction, CO., Bradley Reece, and wife Trina, of Conover, N.C. and granddaughter, Hannah Reece of Greeley, CO.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Charlee Joel Reece.

The family will be holding a private ceremony this weekend in Colorado. In the spring of 2024, a celebration of life will take place in Hickory, N.C. for family and friends.
