Mary Carter

Mary Therese Carter, our precious and loving mother passed away peacefully in her sleep. Mary was at her daughter, Madelyn's home where she had been living and well cared for the last two years. Mary was born April 12, 1928 to Martin and Margaret Delohery in Chicago, Illinois. Her family moved to Denver, Colorado. Mary and James Carter were married in June of 1952 and in 1955, moved to Grand Junction, where James had accepted a County Judgeship. Mary took great pleasure in spending time with the family. Birthday dinner parties were one of her favorites. Watching the Broncos and Notre Dame football brought a lot of joy, as well. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and supporting Catholic charities. Mary was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and took great pride in her Irish-Catholic heritage. She is survived by five of her six children. Mary (Douglas) Starke of Arvada; James (Nancy) Carter of Grand Junction; Martin Carter of Northglenn; Madelyn Carter of Grand Junction; and Marsha (Frank) Fisher of Grand Junction; her grandchildren Matthew Starke, Michael Starke, Mark (Holly) Carter, Heidi (Robbie) Lewis, Julie (Trent) Bloodgood, John (Holly) Miller, Jake (Katrina) Carter, Sarah (Aaron Terry) Carter, Paul (Crystal) Carter, Chelsea (George) Piel and Chris Snowden; great-grandchildren, Dylan Starke, Eden, Raef, Asher, Hanlan, and Anthem Carter, Morgan and MaKenna Lewis, Zoey and Aavrie Bloodgood, Riley and Tayleigh Miller, Amari and Elianna Carter, Lydia Terry, Oliver, Zebulin and Lee and Fritz Piel; brother, John Delohery of Northglenn, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her late husband, The Honorable Judge James Carter, her daughter, Margaret Ackerman; a grandson, Logan Acord Miller; her twin sister, Margaret Morgan, and brothers, Martin Delohery and Joseph Delohery. Rosary will be held Friday, February 27th at 10:15 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary's name to Hope West Hospice of the Grand Valley. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Hope West for their kind and compassionate care of Mary over the last 18 months, especially Courtney, Stephanie, Tera, April and Gracie.
