Mary Kalmes

Mary Kalmes passed away at home October 6, 2020 at the age of 90.  Preceded in death by parents Henry and Helen. Brother Bob and sisters Phyllis and Alice.  Survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and her constant companion Louie.  Mary was born and raised in Altura, MN and following her high school graduation attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing through the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  She worked in the field of nursing for many years while living in Chicago.  She eventually moved to Aspen, Colorado where she enjoyed skiing, teaching piano, the yearly Aspen Music Festival and produced many theatrical productions.  She left Aspen for Arizona for a short time before settling in Grand Junction.  She loved to play her piano, listen to opera, classical music, attending the Grand Junction Symphony events, shopping (for shoes) and watching her PBS shows on Sunday evening.  Special thanks to Paula, Kathy, Margie and other close neighbors for the care and attention provided to her over her last few years.  Per Mary’s request, there will be no funeral service.  A small private interment will be held at Orchard Mesa Cemetery
