Mary Romero

Mary Jane Romero, age 84, of Fruita, CO died September 25, 2017 at HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction, CO

Born June 19, 1933 in Fruita, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Lucy Otero Marez.

Mary Jane was a loving and kindhearted person who never met a stranger.  She and her husband, Moses, were foster parents for 40 years. As a homemaker, she loved to cook and was always willing to help those in need.  She worked as nurse’s aide for many years and later volunteered as a Senior Companion at St. Mary’s Hospital. With a spirit of loving kindness and helping hands, she was awarded “Volunteer of the Year “ by St. Mary’s Senior Partners Program.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses, and their infant son Bobby.

She is survived by four sons, Larry (Carolyn) Romero, Ricky (Wendy) Romero, Jeff Romero, all of Grand Junction, Steve (Terena) Romero, from Orem, UT, four daughters, Patsy (Dennis) Wilkinson, Grand Junction, Dianna (Leonard) Berry, Helena, MT, Janice (Randy) Ammerman, Clifton, CO,  Tina (Steve) Biggerstaff, Loma, CO.

She raised three foster sons, Bob, Tom and Joe Samora, and fostered over 60 other children over the years. She was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be at Brown’s Funeral Chapel Friday, September 29, 2017 from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M.

Memorial Celebration of Life at the Fruita Assembly of God Church, on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10 A.M.  Inurnment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HopeWest Hospice.
