Wilton passed away on November 3, 2016, at the age of 76. He was born to Milburn Harold Jaynes and Betty Jean Campbell Jaynes on September 4, 1940, in San Diego, California. He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany. In Germany he met and married Hannelore and they gave birth to Alex and Pam. After he was transferred to Fort Ord, Tina was born. After the military, Wilton did a little trucking and then he went to work for Western Airlines in Los Angeles, California. He took a transfer to Aurora, Colorado, and worked at Stapleton Airport until Frontier bought out Western. He did odd jobs from there and moved to Oceanside, California, for several years before settling in at Grand Junction, Colorado. During these years, Wilton liked to collect Bradford exchange plates, play the organ (he worked nights and would come home and play to unwind), putting puzzles together and framing them, baking, fishing, and hunting elk and deer with his kids. He actually never got a deer or elk but he and Hannelore bought Pam a Winchester 30-30 rifle and she shot her first deer in 1981 in Rifle, Colorado! He also had a love for native art, loved to build and tinker with things and loved Las Vegas. After 46 years of marriage, Wilton and Hannelore divorced. In 2007, Wilton married Martha. He always said that Martha was his angel and that she saved his life. They were always together. Martha knew no strangers and her mission was to make sure that everyone met her friend, Jesus! Wilton was her driver. Martha loved everyone and did everything so Wilton did too. Not only did they have Wilton’s kids, Martha’s kids, and their adopted kids, they also had their stuffed animal kids which they loved so much – Barney the brown bear, Buffy the pink bear, Suzanne the white bear and Fluff a Roo! During these years Wilton and Martha attended church at Jubilee Family Church and then The Potter’s Remnant. Wilton served as a greeter at church and you could always count on him to help decorate for VBS and wrap gifts for the Angel Tree. He also volunteered in the food and clothing bank every week. He and Martha made tamales every year to raise funds for buying Christmas gifts. He also continued to make delicious cakes. Most importantly, you could count on them to pray for you. In 2015, Martha passed away and so did a piece of Wilton. He held on to the hope that she was his guardian angel. He spent lots of time visiting her memorial at the VA Cemetery and keeping it brightly decorated in her memory. He was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. Last year he was so excited at their wild card chances but then so disappointed when they lost. (He took it hard.) He had a green thumb and liked sharing the veggies from his garden. He also had a competitive side. He was included in our annual Amaryllis family competition and he planted that bulb the minute he got home on Christmas day! Then he wanted the rules and the game was on. I think he came in second place but who’s keeping track. His favorite scripture: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26. He leaves behind his daughter Pam and her husband, his daughter Tina and her husband, one sister and one brother, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren (another on the way), his church friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha, a brother, a son and a grandson. At Wilton’s request, there will be no services.
