Monte Mccall

February 20, 1950 — March 6, 2021

Monte Lee McCall Sr., 71, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed on March 06, 2021 while in the care of Hope West Hospice.  Monte was born on February 20, 1950 in Glendale, California.

In the 1960’s Monte and his father had a high-end automotive repair shop in Beverly Hills, where they met and worked on the cars of many celebrities. When he was 16, he met his future spouse Kathleen Rose Behan. They married in 1969 while he was attending BYU.  He later worked for Hughes Aerospace in the laser development division.  In 1975, Monte and Kathie took their two young boys and moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where he would spend the rest of his life.  Monte worked with his father at Shellabarger Chevrolet and later McCall’s Service Center. In 1979 he opened Monte’s Motor City Transmissions.  The business became well known for its comedic family commercials and great service.  As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Monte held many church callings: Elders Quorum President, Stake Young Men’s President, High Councilman, and Bishop. He and his wife Kathie also served as temple workers in the Monticello temple.  Monte touched many lives over the years and will be remembered and loved by all who knew him.>>

Monte enjoyed building and restoring cars and trucks, operating his ham radio, assisting in the Mesa County Search and Rescue, fishing and camping, relaxing with his dog Lily, and of course enjoying time with his extensive family.  He was the best husband, father, and “Pop Pop”.

Monte is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen, his sons Monte Lee McCall Jr (Kimi) of Idaho Falls, ID and Sean McCall (Kelli) of Fruita, CO, daughters Julie-Anne Alexander (Sherman Peter Alexander) of Spokane, WA, Mande Gableson (Timothy Gableson) of Grand Junction, CO and Ronda McCall of Grand Junction, CO.  His 13 grandchildren- Bridger and Madilyn McCall; Sherman Carter, Christopher, Matthew, Nicholas, and Annalyn Alexander; Marcus and Ava Gabelson; Sheali, Joni, Katee and Lizzie McCall. His brother Timothy McCall (Sharron McCall) of Ogden, UT and his sisters Susan Smith (Dennis Smith) of Tennessee and Michelle Westarp (Carlos Westarp) of North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Thelma McCall, and his son Michael McCall.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday March the 13th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 2542 G Rd, Grand Junction, CO 81505.  Due to COVID restrictions attendance will be limited to 200 persons.  Video streaming of the service will also be available.
