Octa Haas

September 5, 1937 — October 23, 2016

Octa Ann Haas 79 of Grand Jct., CO, passed away on Sunday October 23, 2016 at Hope West Hospice due to complications from a stroke. Octa was born September 5, 1937 in Keyesport, IL, the daughter of Charles ‘Charlie’ and Mable (Harris) Gray. She graduated in 1955 from Carlyle High School Carlyle, IL. On September 5, 1959 she married Lisle T. Haas.

Through the years Octa was employed as a court stenographer in Rangely, CO and later was the secretary to the president,  and then in charge of admissions at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely. Later after moving to Grand Jct., she worked for Rust Geotech at the Department of Energy complex. She was a member of the Grand Jct., First Baptist Church.

In her free time she could always be found assisting her husband Lisle in whatever project he was involved with. She also enjoyed hunting and shooting archery, supporting her grandchildren in their many activities, knitting Christmas socks for many family and friends and rooting on the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.

Octa was very friendly, outgoing and was very dedicated to Lisle and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lisle (12-25-98), her parents and 3 brothers John, Dick and Ray Gray.

She is survived by 3 sons Tom (Kim), Jim (Dana) and Bill (Bambi), all of Grand Jct., 2 sisters Mary (Leroy) Barth,  Keyesport, IL and Sue Hammond, Altamount, IL., 7 Grandkids, Shawn (Lexi), Kylie (Chance), Rachael, Thomas, Jamie, Daniel and Lisle, along with 4 great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sunday October 23, 2016 at the Grand Junction First Baptist Church.  A memorial service will also be held this coming summer in IL for her family and friends there. In Lieu of flowers,  please consider making a memorial contribution to Hope West Hospice, 3090 N. 12th St., Unit B, Grand Junction,  CO 81506,  in Octa’s name,  or to the Mesa County 4-H Archery program 2775 Hwy 50, Grand Jct., CO 81503,  in Octa & Lisle’s name.
