Pamela June Fortney, 56 years old, passed from this earth on February 4, 2025, following a long battle with various health issues. She was born July 10, 1968, in Downey, California, the only child to Keith Fortney and the late Irene Joanne Short Fortney. Known to her family and friends as Pamela or Pam, she spent most of her youth in Grand Junction, Colorado and attended schools there. She graduated from Central High School in 1986. She moved around some after graduation but mostly stayed on the western slope of Colorado.
Being an only child can be lonely at times, but it helped that she was part of a large family with grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from both sides. She loved to talk about her family and tried to keep up with all of them through phone conversations. Her phone was her lifeline. She had many good and close friends through the years because she was a friend to everyone she met.
Pamela loved the outdoors and when her health was good, many hours were spent on her bike, swimming, river rafting, and going camping and water skiing with family and friends. Later as her health kept her away from these activities, she collected stuffed animals. Many of her conversations were about the dogs, cats, and horses that were part of her home life. She loved anything with hearts and took great joy in word searches. Her favorite color was yellow, and her favorite saying was “Oh well!” She could be stubborn-she did not like and refused to eat chicken and made sure everyone knew it.
Early on, she found she loved going to church and it brought her great comfort. Through the years she became very spiritual from dealing with the many trials and tribulations she encountered as she traveled through life.
Pamela was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Irene Fortney, her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her father, Keith (Charlene) Fortney, Austin, CO; her aunts, Deanna (Greg) Armon, Cedaredge, CO; Earlene (Gary) Davis, Grand Junction, CO; Alice Catherine (Felton) Corbett, Magnolia, TX; Donna Mae (Roscoe) Heyman, Menard, TX; plus, numerous cousins.
