Peggy Ann Banks

March 8, 1937 — October 19, 2024

Peggy was born March 8th, 1937 in Carbondale, Colorado to Virgil and Helen Pettigrew. She passed away peacefully October 19th, 2024, holding the hand of her daughter, and in the compassionate care of Ferris Hospice Care Center (Hope West) in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Peggy grew up and attended schools in Carbondale, CO. As a toddler, she brought great laughter to her parents when she made “green” mud pies in the corrals, and added horror to her parents when she sampled her own work. She loved spending her summers on Mt. Sopris where she cooked for her father at a logging camp.

She met her former husband Paul Banks in Carbondale CO. They later eloped to marry in Raton, NM June 29th, 1955. They started their family in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado and later moved to Grand Junction, CO. Many years later Peggy moved to Idaho to be near her parents, but returned to Colorado after their passing.

She lived a life of faith for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and she was the first to introduce her children and grandchildren to our Father in Heaven by gifting them their first Bible. The best gift of all. Her grandchildren attended church with her occasionally and she gave them lemon drops to keep them quiet during the sermon.

Peggy was a bright spirit. She had a beautiful voice, and was often seen whistling and dancing around the house. She sang at home, in the car, in the church choir, and occasionally performed solo in church.

She was an avid reader and would spend hours reading and taking a new adventure with each book.

She had several jobs throughout her lifetime. The most rewarding was being a caregiver at Bee Hive Assisted Living in Boise, ID. She loved listening to the life experiences of the residents.

Our family is so blessed to have had her as our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, and Cousin. We are at peace, for we know she has earned her wings in Heaven. She is now singing with the angels.

Some of her favorite sayings that we all will miss were. “These golden years sure aren’t all that they are cracked up to be”. Another being, “I’m ready for my good Lord to take me home”. She was ready to meet her Father in Heaven and we are so happy for her.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Helen Pettigrew, brother Virgil Pettigrew, sister Marilyn Williams, and grandson Thomas Schmidt.

She is survived by her brother Walt Pattigrew of Riggins, ID, sister Donna De La Cruiz, of San Jose, Costa Rica, Karen Pettigrew of Boardman, OR. Sons Gary Banks of Newton, KS, and William Banks, of Grand Junction, CO. Daughters Kristy Taylor of Arvada, CO, Pamela (Dave) Shipley of Grand Junction, CO and Laura Banks of Virginia, MN. Grandchildren Dezarai (Travis) Hays, Miranda (Justin) Daly, Crystal (Julio) Martinez, Cindi Scmidt, Jessee (Jenna) Koski, Dylon Koski, Heather (Mike) Vanata. Great grandchildren Tyler Hays, Jordyn (Austin) Hart, Justin Daly, Michael Daly, Victoria Martinez, Jazmin Martinez, Hayden Martinez, Gadge Wall, Miley Wall, Helena Koski, and Logan Koski.
