Peggy Thurlow

March 20, 1948 — January 15, 2022

Peggy Thurlow was born in Ouray, Colorado in 1948 to Betty (Creel) Peck. She came into this world just the way she left; feisty, full of life and love. Peggy was 73 years old when she died the morning of Saturday, January 15th with her family by her side. She was full of laughter, love and sarcasm to the very end.

When Peggy was 4 years old, her mother Betty Peck and sister, Rita Corlett moved to Grand Junction. Peggy grew up on 9th and Chipeta next to her life long friend Cheryl (Mulford) Hughes. Their friendship was a strength that Peggy always carried with her. Cheryl was one of the last people Peggy spoke to before she died.

Most of Peggy’s childhood summers were spent in Lake City, Colorado where Betty kept a summer home. Spending time at Vickers Dude Ranch was an every day occurrence. She loved everything about the ranch until she fell off the back of a horse and cracked her tailbone. Riding horses wasn’t a favorite after that. Peggy graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1966 and married her high school sweetheart, Dan Thurlow. They proceeded to have 3 children in under 4 years. She was efficient that way! Peggy worked diligently in the family businesses as well as being an amazing homemaker while raising 3 kids. Spending time in Lake City, Colorado at Betty’s summer home was always a favorite. Sometimes the family would meet Peggy’s sister Rita and her three kids or Peggy’s beloved sister-in-law Cindy Stanfield and her husband Jay and their two boys, Jason and Adam for fishing, jeeping and memory making. And of course, Peggy had her annual Bridge Girls trip in Lake City. (We will never know what truly went on during that weekend!)

Peggy was a huge supporter of her kids sporting events. You could always find her in the stands of the football, baseball and softball games. And if you were really lucky, you will remember seeing her on TOP of the dugout dancing and cheering on her daughter’s softball team with the other moms. Once Peggy’s kids were grown, Peggy and Dan divorced and she met her current husband, Tom Foote. Tom and Peggy had an amazing 12 years together traveling to some of their favorite destinations such as Santa Fe, Taos or Vega Reservoir in their motor home. But their favorite times of travel were to see their grandkids Maddie & Max in Las Vegas or traveling to various sporting events with their Grand Junction grandkids, James & Danny. And just like with her first round of kids, Peggy and Tom were a fixture at every baseball and football game played by her grandkids. Peggy was not only a devoted momma and grandma to her own kids but she “adopted” many other kids over the years as well, giving her the nickname “Peaches”. Peggy loved her house to be full of family and “family” was a wide open term for ANYONE to come over. Her meals she provided were always fit for 20. Thanksgiving cooking was full of amazing recipes, laughter and cocktails.

Peggy will always be know for her feisty spirit, her sarcastic and witty sense of humor, her love for her grandkids and her devotion to her husband Tom. Peggy leaves behind many loved ones; Her husband Tom Foote of Grand Junction. Her sister Rita Corlett of Loveland, Co. Her oldest son Tony Thurlow, wife Caprice and their two kids Maddie and Max of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her daughter Stacy Romero, husband Dominic and their four kids James & Danny Antonucci and Jacob & Anna Romero of Grand Junction. And her youngest son Andy Thurlow, wife Pintip and their daughter Pom of Las Vegas, Nevada.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 5th from 4-6pm at 2154 Village View Crt. Bring your memories to share as we raise a cocktail one last time to pay tribute to Peggy in their home.
