Philip Eugene Dorr, 79, died January 1, 2024 in Grand Junction, CO, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born March 9, 1944, in Boston Massachusetts, he was the son of Eugene Henry Dorr and Opal Elizabeth Sontag. When Phil was two, he moved with his parents to Lakewood, CO, where he graduated from Lakewood High School in 1962. Phil attended Fort Lewis College for two years before transferring to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, earning a B.S. in Agriculture in 1966. He continued his studies at CSU earning a M.S. in 1969. Phil married Kathleen Vail in 1969. They moved to Ames, IA, where he began studies at Iowa State University toward a Ph.D. in Poultry Nutrition, which was awarded in 1973. Phil was employed for over 35 years at several poultry companies working as a nutritionist. He retired in 2008. Phil loved horses and owned several while living in GA. He also raised tropical fish, mainly Bettas, for many years. Phil is survived by his wife, Kathy, two sons, Neil of Woodridge, IL and Eric (Shannon) of Boise ID and two grandchildren, McCoy and Sutton, of Boise. Phil is also survived by three sisters, Betsy, Margaret and Barbara and a brother, Tom. Services at a later date.
