Philip Purnell

June 4, 1957 — May 26, 2021

This is in memory of Philip Paul Purnell. He passed away on May 26th, 2021. He was 63 years old. Philip was born in Niles, Michigan in 1957 to Dewey and Dolores Purnell. From 1977 to 1982, he served in the United States Marines for four years. After his discharge, he met his wife in Phoenix, Arizona. They got married in 1983 and was married for 38 years. Later, they moved to Colorado, where their son was born and they’d spend the remainder of his life together.

He is survived by his wife; Cherie Purnell, one son; Jacob Purnell, 3 sisters; Ghislaine Delgado, Susan Wade and her husband; Steve Wade, Judy Kavanaugh and her husband; Bill, a brother; John Purnell and his wife Carolina, his step dad; Ferdy Mendoza and his wife; Lupita, his brother – in – law Jim Delgado, two sister- in- laws; Susan Lamb, Debbie Thuma and her husband Blu Lindsey, and father-in-law James Miller, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews as well as cousins.

Philip liked to go fishing, camping and was an avid football fan. He also liked to play bingo, go to casinos, play poker and loved to play card games with friends and family. He was an amazing guy, and an amazing father and husband. He was known as a “simple man.” Materialistic things never mattered to him, he just enjoyed company and living day to day life. He never asked for anything, had a very humble spirit and never complained about anything.  He also enjoyed reading western books. He would do anything for anybody at any time. He had a big heart. He was loved by everyone. We loved him very much. He was always very calm and peaceful, no matter the circumstances. Jesus Christ was his savior.

He is proceeded in death by his dad; Dewey Purnell, his mom; Dolores Mendoza, his brother; Steve Purnell, his sister; Barbara Cabrara, his niece; Tonya Dalhstrand and his mother-in-law; Twila Miller.

“Phil was the rock of this family, always holding everything together and there for anyone who needed anything at all. The loss of Philip Purnell is a void that can never be refilled. There is no one on the earth that could ever fill his shoes, and the loss of Phil is a tremendous one, in every sense of the word. Please say a prayer for his family, as they go through this difficult time, for they have lost the rock that always held them together. Phil will be greatly missed and forever loved.” – Heather Miller

“Rest in peace my darling.” – Cherie Purnell

“I recently lost my dad on May 26th. He was my best friend and the best dad I could have ever asked for.” – Jacob Purnell
