Phillip Warrington Waitman

August 30, 1931 – September 18, 2018

Phillip Warrington Waitman left this world peacefully on September 18, 2018.  Phillip was born August 30, 1931, the eldest child of Phillip Jay Waitman and Sarah Jane (Clair) Waitman.  He was born in the country outside of Burlington, CO.  He worked weekends at a neighbor’s farm.  After working on the farm, Phillip went to work at a filling station and later a lumberyard.

In 1951, he married Evelyn Louise Holmes, together they had four boys and two girls.

Phillip and his family moved to Hotchkiss, Colorado where he worked as a ranch hand for Merle DeMoss Senior.  Next, he and his wife worked for Wayne Webster at the Pallet Mill.  Phillip then worked at Hawk’s Nest Mine until he retired.  He divorced Evelyn and remarried Maria Sims who he later divorced also.  Phillip loved being with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Jay Waitman and Sarah Jane Waitman.

He is survived by his four brother and sisters; Phyllis and Bob Brown of Burlington, CO, Ilene Wahl of Brewster, Kansas, Art and Lou Waitman of Stratton, CO, and Dale and Jean Nider of Burlington, CO.  He also has six surviving children and their spouses; Bruce and Cathy Waitman of Delta, CO, Boyd Waitman of Craig, CO, Brian Waitman of Hotchkiss, CO, Burl and Deann Waitman of Billings, MT, Shirley and Larry Tate of Grand Junction, CO, and Marlyn Waitman of Delta, CO.

As Grandpa Phillip, he was blessed with 12 Grand Children; Eric Waitman, Tony Waitman, Aaron Waitman, Ronnie Wanczyk, Crystal Walsh, Elizabeth Waitman, Rebecca Graham, Paden Livingston, Carly Kiddy, Wiley Bass, Keegan Bass, and Megan Sievertsen.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 13th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the American Legion, 40772 Lamborn Mesa Road, Paonia, Colorado.  The family will be hosting a service then and will provide a light fare and beverages.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brown’s Cremation and Funeral Service.
