Phyllis Conard

Phyllis M Conard passed away on September 1, 2016. Phyllis was born in Lyons, Kansas on March 16, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Burton and Iverna Rife. Phyllis was a resident of Rifle. She attended Fort Hays State University, after receiving her teaching certificate Phyllis taught in a one room school house in Rush County Kansas in 1941. She met her husband Burton M Conard in Rush County and married on June 14, 1942. Phyllis became a retail clerk working in Boulder for Penney’s and Plaza Drug Store and in Rifle for Henry’s and Miller’s. Phyllis was a great seamstress, cook, known for her pies and grew lovely roses.

She is survived by daughters; Corrine Strobel, IL Jana (Mike) Newby of Grand Junction; son Stan Conard of Rifle. Her grandchildren, Marcia (Rick) Waters, Noelle Julian, Danielle (Kevin) Laban, Amanda (Nick) Morrow, Wyatt (Brittney) Conard; and great grandchildren, Ricky and Katie Waters, Mason and Vaughn Strobel, Sam Julian, Tegan and Ashon Morrow, Lilly Ann and Orion Conard, Adley Laban.

Phyllis’s children will greatly miss their mother and her unconditional love. Known to her grandchildren as Gammie, GG, or Grandma; Phyllis was a source of strength and love in her family. Nothing lit up a room quite like Phyllis’ laugh, or brightened your day like a handwritten note from Phyllis in the mailbox. The world is a little dim without her bright smile and warm hugs.

Phyllis leaves behind a sister, Gayle Johnson of Shorewood WI; and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and 4 sisters; her husband Burton, Dec 1999; daughter Nancy Julian, Sep 2000; daughter-in-law Penny Conard, Oct 2005; son-in-law Tom Strobel, Feb 2011; grandson Chris Strobel, Jan 2014.

Memorial services will be held on Monday October 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Home 904 N 7th St. Grand Junction, CO.
