Richard Howe

Richard Howe, age 73, passed away in Grand Junction, Colorado on June 28, 2021 due to complications from a stroke.

Born May 4, 1948 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Rick is the son of Steve and Valene Howe of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  Rick lived in Steamboat Springs and Grand Junction, Colorado.  Rick attended Steamboat Springs schools and graduated with an Associate degree from Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs.

After college, he returned to Steamboat and worked at the Yampa Valley Co-op and the Ski Haus store.  While in Steamboat, Rick was involved with many community organizations including the Lion's Club, Steamboat Rodeo, and the United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and helped with youth group.   In 1997 Rick moved to Grand Junction, CO with his mom Valene.  He worked at the City Market and Home Depot.  In 2012 Rick began volunteering at the St. Mary’s Blood Bank, clocking over 3,900 volunteer hours. He spent several hours each day calling people in the community to arrange donation appointments. He was passionate and kind desiring to make a difference for others.  He also was an avid blood donor with over 26 gallons donated.  Rick was very active in the Redlands Methodist Church.  He sang with the praise team, volunteered on the leadership and hospitality committees, and worked each summer at the farmer’s market.  He was also a participant and volunteer for the annual Road to Emmaus Walk, and serving meals monthly to the homeward bound.

Rick’s Christian faith was important to him and was displayed most in his faithful Bible reading and outgoing personality to friends, family and anyone he would meet.  Rick will be remembered for his generosity, faithfulness, laughter, tenor singing, and joyful interactions with others.  He was also excellent at keeping up with his extended family members, knowing what was happening with each person.  He loved celebrating birthdays and sending handpicked cards to his nephews and their kids.

Rick is missed but we take joy in the promise that he is at home with the Lord.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents: Steve and Valene Howe.  Rick is survived by his sister Pat (John) Hurst, his nephews Brad (Megan, Ashley, Piper) Hurst and Paul (Kerrie, Tabor, Nariah) Hurst and many cousins who he kept in contact with over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery in Steamboat Springs, CO. It will be a graveside service on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 11:30 am.
