Richard Lee Marcus, age 78, died on the 26th of October, 2021 following a brief illness. Born on the 26th of December, 1942 in Washington, District of Columbia, he was the son of Mary Louise Marcus and the late George John Marcus. Due to his father’s career with the Federal Government, he moved to a variety of places until the family settled in Denver Colorado for a time. Early activities included Boy Scouts, in which he was an Eagle Scout, and ROTC, in which he was a Brigadier General—the highest rank in the Denver area.
He graduated from South High School in Denver, Colorado, and served in the United States Army as a PFC E-3 Radio Operator for the Fourth Army. He married M. Jeanette Marcus on the 22nd of June, 1968 in Hawthorn, California. He graduated from University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada with a Bachelor in Science in 1970, and then graduated with a Master in Public Administration from Denver University in Denver, Colorado in 1983. Finally, he completed his Master in Theology from Tyndale University in 2018, followed by his Doctor of Philosophy in Advanced Prophetics from Baptist University in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2021.
As for his career, Richard learned surveying in high school during the summer and enjoyed it enough to return to it three times in his life. Working in public administration most of his life, he held employment with Larimer County in Colorado in various positions, including serving as the Larimer County
Personnel Manager and Undersheriff. He worked for various other public entities in Colorado throughout his career, and served as the Palisade Town Manager. Towards the end of his career, he worked for the City of Grand Junction Public Works Department.
He enjoyed weightlifting, Z-Cars, camping, BBQs with family, Bible studies—especially End Time Prophecy—hiking, and sharpshooting. He attended Clifton Christian Church. Always dedicated to his family, he would often come over and help his children with projects around the house, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren at any activity or event they participated. A favorite pastime of his was watching movies and television shows, taking great pleasure in sharing them with his family and friends. One great event in life he took pleasure in was taking his wife to the British Isles on their 50th Anniversary.
A very private man, Richard kept to himself except around his family, though he was always friendly with everyone he met. He always supported his family and their endeavors, and had a goofy side he only showed those closest to him. He was always ready to help, and listened to stories and opinions, only voicing his if he has something to add or debate, respecting the views of others. He was passionate about the things which mattered to him. He prided himself on being one of the 25% of men who preferred cats, always having at least one, if not more, in his homes, taking great pleasure in their company.
He is preceded in death by his father, George John Marcus and survived by his mother Mary Louise Marcus; his wife M. Jeanette Marcus; his two sons Richard Alexander Marcus (Kelly Marie Oxford) and Robert Alistair Marcus (Nora Alicia Pena), his daughter Robin Anne Marcus; and eight grandchildren: River Auron, Anya Moselle, Kaylee Marie, Rachel Anne, Miriam Joslynn, Patrick Lee-Owen, Fox Orion, and Ian Alexander. He is also survived by his five siblings: sisters Michelle Ellis, Valerie Feldman, and Alexis Robinson; brothers Matthew Marcus and Geoffrey Marcus.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for December 3, 2021 4pm at Clifton Christian Church, and any memorial contributions can be made to CLAWS, where he would adopt his cats.
