Richard Noah Smith (“Dickie-poo”) age 81 went to be with Jesus Dec. 20, 2021. Richard was a long-time resident of Delta, CO and recently moved to Grand Junction, CO. He is survived by his “honey” Veronica Amrine Smith, two sons: Michael (Karin) Smith and Mark (Lori) Smith, 11 grandchildren: Austin, Brianna, Dakota, Brailyn, Cierra, Dillon, Shasta, Britianna, Brayden, Bryson, and Brenalia, and 4 great grandchildren: Lyra, PJ, Oakleigh, and Ivar.
Richard graduated from Olathe High School in 1958 and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1969.
He served his country in the US Army from 1960-1963. He was a specialist E5 and the company clerk. Also, to the amazement of many he qualified as expert with a M-1 rifle.
He proposed to Veronica three times, and she said, “No, I don’t want to be stuck at home all the time, I want travel.” So, in the 56 years of their married life they traveled far and wide. During their marriage they lived in Greeley, Delta, and Grand Junction.
He truly enjoyed accounting therefore, he became a Certified Public Accountant and owned his own business for 58 years. Richard also enjoyed the time he served as the treasurer of the Delta County Fire Dept. Board for 40 years.
He was a faithful member of Rivers Church in Delta.
His hobbies included gardening, watching the Broncos, win or lose, and you could always count on him for a clean joke.
Family, friends, church, and country were all very important to him, so he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
