Richard Wayne Stulc, 74, passed away at Hope West Ferris Hospice Center in Grand Junction, CO, on April 13th, 2025, at 10:40 PM after a long battle with stomach cancer.
He was born in Lewistown, Montana, on March 23rd, 1951, to Viola Elizabeth (Peterson) Stulc and Frank Vincent Stulc. He spent his early childhood years in Winifred, Montana, and attended Flax School, a small country school outside Winifred. The family resided in what was lovingly referred to “Joe’s Place” which was a former homestead of his great-uncle Joe Stulc. There, Richard played in the coulees and hills of the area.
Richard moved with his family in 1960 to Basin Gardens Basin, Wyoming. He attended school in Basin and graduated from Basin High School in 1970. Richard was involved in track and field. Yet, Richard’s greatest enjoyment was camping, hunting, and fishing. If you wanted to know about the best spots to hunt and fish or the best equipment to catch your game, Richard was the go-to.
Richard not only enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a knack for building, carpentry, and such. He went to school in Denver at Western Tech for mechanical drawing, but sadly, the school closed before he could receive his degree. He also attended Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyoming, and studied Agricultural Economics.
Gardening. Oh boy! Richard was the best. He had his Grandmother Stulc’s green thumb. Yummy peaches, pears, and even lemons.
After graduating from Basin High School, Richard moved to Worland and followed in his brother Robert’s footsteps, working for Haliburton. He married Annette Pieper on November 26, 1976. They had two children, Laura Stulc Trusty and James Stulc. They moved to Grand Junction, CO, where they remained. Richard retired from Haliburton shortly after moving to Grand Junction, CO and then worked for Hartline Supply delivering and repairing copper cables for coal mines and then managing a shop until March, 2025. Richard later divorced from Annette in 2010 and met Dana Whittaker a couple of years later. Dana and Richard were married on October 19th, 2024.
Richard was preceded in death by his father and mother Frank and Viola Stulc, and brother, Robert Stulc.
Survivors include his son, James Andrew Stulc (married to Risharra (McDonald) Stulc), and daughter Laura Ann (Stulc) Trusty (married to Daniel Trusty). His grandchildren include Camden, Rya, Grayson, Braxton, Everett, and Carter Stulc. His stepchildren include Abby (Perales) Snyder, married to James Snyder, and Andrew Beneda. His step-grandchildren include Lena, Frankyi, and Aries Snyder, and McKenzie Beneda. His step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren through Daniel Trusty are Alexander and Amanda Bowen and their children Kamdyn, Violet, and Angelie Bowen. His surviving siblings are Linda (Doug) Smith, Gary Stulc, Donna (Leland) Johnson, Thomas Stulc, Debbra Stulc, Betty Stulc, Edward Stulc, Kenneth (Arlene) Stulc, Steven Stulc, and Frank (Patty) Stulc, Jr. He has many nieces and nephews as well.
The Rosary will be at 9:30AM and Mass of a Christian Burial will be at 10:00am Monday, April 21st, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greybull, Wyoming. Burial will be held at 12:00 PM (noon) Tuesday, April 22nd in Winifred, Montana.
