Rickey Gene Huffington

February 8, 1950 — September 5, 2023

Rickey (Rick) Gene Huffington, 73, of Delta, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 5, 2023 at HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction.

Rick was born to Eugene and Billie (Schull) Huffington on February 8, 1950 in Delta. Rick was a lifelong resident of Delta and graduated from Delta High School in 1968.

Rick was the owner of The Trophy Shop in Delta for 47 years and loved his work. He made a lot of great friends over the years.

Rick was involved and help organize the Gunnison River Yacht Crazy Raft Race every year and as he was a real competitor, won many of the races over the years. Everyone loved it and had a great time and this race was run for 20 years in Delta with many volunteers. Rick was a member of Delta Elks #1235 and Delta Trap Club.

In his senior year at Delta High School he was selected for the Denver Post's 1968 All League Basketball team, on April 1, 1968. He enjoyed playing softball, baseball and basketball for many years in Delta competitively going to many tournaments in and out of the state.

His other passion was hunting elk and was very successful at it. Rick also loved pheasant hunting with his bird dogs and fishing with his Dad and friends. He told me the only thing he wanted in his obituary is "I Went Hunting".

Surviving Rick is his spouse Deborah, two step-sons Michael (Rochelle) Somers, Chris (Paige Will) Somers, brother in law Larry Spencer, sister Janet Connoyer, niece Nichole Long and nephew Shawn Roberts and his pride and joy of his life his five grandchildren, Kendell, Cuyler, Taylor, Lila and Jenna.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Vickey and a brother Larry.

A private service will be held at a later date at the Huffington cabin on the Uncompahgre Plateau.
