Robert Lees

Robert Avon Lees was born July 19, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the elder son of Bob and Rosemarie Lees. Robert attended Bloomington Lincoln High School and the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. After college, he worked as a designer and builder on his own architecture and landscape projects.  As an artist, free spirit and creator at heart, Rob saw the world through an artist’s lens.

Robert was a very talented and renown interdisciplinary artist who integrated painting, mixed media sculpture, architecture, and landscape architecture in his life’s work. Robert has shown his art in museums and galleries across the country, including Berkeley, San Diego, Santa Fe, Minneapolis, and Boulder.

As an accomplished skier, Robert met his goal of skiing at least a hundred days each winter for the last several years. It was January of 2017 when Rob met Dawn Stutz while living in Steamboat Springs.  In April Robert was diagnosed with a life threatening illness.  Dawn graciously cared for Rob through the duration of his illness.  The family is grateful to Dawn, her network of friends and Hope West Hospice for providing such unconditional and compassionate care.  Rob passed away on July 2.

Su Lund, Robert’s companion and fellow artist of many of the past 38 years greatly supported Rob in life, his art and his creative process.

Rob is survived by his mother Rosemarie, brother David, niece and nephew Alicia and Justin, Su, Dawn and several cousins.

The family is planning a celebration of Rob’s life at a future date. Memorials preferred to Hope West Hospice and Care Center, Grand Junction, Co.
