Robert Lewis or Bob as some of you know him, arrived into this world June 23, 1938 to Henry and Lucille Lewis. He was born in his parent’s home in Fort Morgan and started his journey through life. Dad reminisced a lot about Fort Morgan and his years growing up in a small town. And all his children have fond memories of going to Fort Morgan to visit their grandparents and hearing Dad’s stories of home. But Fort Morgan was not meant to be his home forever and a young lady caught his eye and another chapter began for Robert Lewis. He married July 16, 1960 and moved to Boulder so his wife could attend CU. But along came the Vietnam War and the draft and another chapter, the military. He served in the Army from Sept 1961 to Sept of 1963 he never went away to war, but no less served his country here in the states. His first child was born during his service in the military in Fort Jackson South Carolina. After the military he returned home to Colorado and put roots down in Denver and finished up his family with three more children and started his career with the United States Mint. In addition to working at the Mint he repaired televisions as an side job to provide for his family. Eventually, Dad ended up in Arvada were all four children were raised and lots of memories created. Then came Grand Junction and the time to retire. He moved to Grand Junction approximately eighteen years ago and bought a home at the bottom of the Colorado Monument. He loved the view from his front yard and the many hikes up Riggs Hill. He also enjoyed his many friends that he made over the years in Grand Junction including his neighbors, people from the Moose and the singles club he belonged to. Over the years he added six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren to his legacy.
Dad loved the outdoors. He loved to hike, camp, boat, ride ATV’s bicycles and just enjoyed being outside. He also loved to bowl and watch movies especially old westerns. He traveled throughout his life to Germany, Hawaii, Belize and all over the United States. His best quality was the love he had for his family even though he had a hard time expressing it, but I know in the end the best part of this man’s life was his FAMILY and FRIENDS. And for those of you reading this thank you for being a part of his life.
Dad wanted one last road trip before moving on…so Dad Happy Trails to You and I know you arrived safely in Heaven were you will be taken care of and you will have no more pain or sorrows to endure.
