Robert “Bob” Duaine Littlejohn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, in Grand Junction, Colorado, surrounded by his loving family. Robert, born on January 7, 1944, in Colorado, was among the last of the great American Cowboys, a true testament to that era. He lived a remarkable life marked by service, hard work, and a deep love for his family.

At 18, Robert answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy and served during the beginning of the Vietnam War. He served with distinction and honor until his discharge in 1965. Returning to his hometown of Nucla, Colorado, Robert worked in construction and the uranium mines, embodying the resilience and strength of the West.

In the 1970s, Robert met the love of his life, Marty, and they put down deep roots in Paonia, Colorado. He began a career in law enforcement, serving the community with integrity and dedication. Rising through the ranks, Robert became Police Chief, a role he fulfilled for over 12 years with honor and compassion.

After his tenure as Police Chief, Robert pursued his passion for the wilderness and acquired Lakota Guide and Outfitting. Together with his family, he guided hunters on horseback expeditions to seek elk and bears in the rugged beauty of the West Elk Wilderness and surrounding area during the 1980s and 1990s. These adventures were a testament to his love for the outdoors and his indomitable spirit.

In later years, Robert and Marty purchased and operated the Diner in Paonia, welcoming friends, locals, and hunters with warm hospitality. Simultaneously, Robert embraced his roots as a Cowboy, working on the Bear Ranch, Figure 4 Ranch, and other ranches in the surrounding area. He split his time between operating the Diner and tending to cattle and ranch life with the grit and determination that defined him.

In the 2000s, Robert and Marty eventually sold The Diner, but Robert’s Cowboy spirit remained. He continued working with cattle in the 2010s, until he decided to hang up his hat and retire. Throughout his life, he shared his wisdom, humor, and life lessons with his children and grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

In 2015, Robert and Marty moved to Mesa, Colorado, and eventually settled in Grand Junction in 2023. His final years were spent surrounded by family, sharing his stories and enjoying the love and laughter of those closest to him.

Robert will be remembered for his calm demeanor, sharp wit, rugged Cowboy charm, and unyielding strength. His legacy of love, resilience, and humor lives on in his family.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Margaret “Marty” Littlejohn; his sons, Rick and Scott; his daughter, Bobbi; his cherished grandchildren, Tristan, Tessa, Triniti, Cody, Austin, and Allie; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Wesley and Abigail.

Robert’s family invites all who knew and loved him to a celebration of his life to be held at 1:00pm on December 9th in Collbran, Colorado, with details to follow.

Robert Duaine Littlejohn’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
