Robert McCarthy of Grand Junction passed away October 6, 2021 in Aurora, CO. He was 73.
Born November 12, 1947 to Robert “Bob” and LaRue (nee McNair) McCarthy in Meadville, PA. As a young child the family moved to Sacramento, CA where he grew up. He graduated C.K. McClatchy High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army from November 1967 to November 1972.
He married Linda Martin (nee Christensen) October 15, 1982, together they welcomed daughter Meghan, they moved to the Western Slope in 1993.
He graduated from Mesa State College in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science. In the years following he worked as a math tutor.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan (even though his first season as a fan they went 0-13) who enjoyed music (he saw some of the greats like The Grateful Dead and Santana live), model trains, math and science. The definition of a “Girl Dad” he never missed a basketball game or choir concert, and even became a Girl Scout leader.
Robert is preceded in death by both parents and his brother Thomas Patrick.
He is survived by wife Linda and daughter Meghan (both of Grand Junction), sister Linda (Jay) Jones of Sagle, ID, nieces; Shana McCarthy, of Rosarito, MX, and Erin Jones, of Sagle, ID, and nephews David Jones, of San Francisco, CA and Zachary Jones, of Sagle, ID.
