Robert Prescott

Robert Andrew Prescott, Jr., 79 died Tuesday, September 26, 2017.  He was born July 4, 1938 in Torrington, Wyoming to Robert and Amy Prescott. He married Judith l. Blaine on October 4, 1957 in Denver, Colorado.

He graduated from South Denver High School in 1956.  He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO, with a degree in metallurgical engineering in 1961. While at CSM, he was a member of the football and wrestling teams.  He was a Sloan Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA and received a Master of Science in Management degree in 1975.

He was a manager in the copper and gold mining industry for 37 years.  His employment, with Kennecot Copper Corporation, and Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co., took him (and his family) throughout Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and to Nome, Alaska.  In Nome, he managed the world’s largest gold mining dredge (the BIMA) in the Bering Sea.  He retired in Moab, Utah and moved to Fruita, Colorado in 2006.

He was an avid duck hunter who was preceded in death by his many loyal Labradors.  Some of his happiest moments were sharing time on the duck marshes with his wife, son, grandson, son-in-law, and hunting friend Chuck.  He also came to enjoy fly fishing on the Eagle River in Steamboat Springs.

He attended Monument Presbyterian Church, Grand Junction.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jacquelyn Newnam.

He is survived by his wife Judith, Fruita, CO; daughters, Susan (Jerry Stallings) Prescott, Show Low, AZ, and Karen (John) Kinney, Cedar City, UT; Son Robert (Joyce) Prescott III; grandchildren, Robert (Jessika) Prescott IV, Jordan (Kelsi) Hagen, Bailey Hagen, Garrett Hagen, Megan (David) Gullickson; five great-grandchildren, Audrey, Brayden, Andrew, Iris and Michelle.
