Rochelle (Shelley) Gayle Frick Bowles, born September 22, 1937, died Thursday, December 16, 2021. She fought a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease, to which she succumbed at her family home in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Shelley managed her blended family- husband Don, Daughters, Cindi, Kelley and Kirby for many years, Kelley and Kirby were blessed to have her at home as youngsters, until she went back to work for Chamberlin Architects as a skilled and well loved office manager for 37 years. A voracious lover of travel, the outdoors and exploration, Shelley traveled all over the United States and abroad, with her family, and at times, by herself. Her favorite destination was visiting her cousins in Indonesia, but a family trip to Italy in 2002 came in a close second. Later in life travels to Mazatlan, Montana and Oregon fed her hunger for travel. She loved her grandchildren and was devoted to helping care for and be involved in their lives until she was unable to due to her condition. Thanks to the skilled care from many caregivers, she was able to stay in the home she loved until the end; the family is eternally grateful to them.
Shelley was well known for her joyous laugh, a chortle that spread far and wide without abandon. Shelley also could be salty at times, she blamed her Irish roots. A love for cooking and baking was altered slightly with a diagnosis of celiac disease in the late 1990’s, but Shelley viewed it as a challenge. She was known for skill with all sorts of candy, sweets and breads, and sewing, crocheting, knitting, and creating in every way for every situation, with hands that were never idle.
She is survived by daughters Cindi Pierce (Ellis) of Price, Utah, Kelley Gusich (Jim) of San Diego, California, Kirby Richardson (Sean) of Grand Junction. Also by brother and sister in law Mike and Jan Frick. Her grandchildren include Amanda, Blake, Cameron, Grey, Griffen, Truett, Riley and Graeme, with great grandchildren Aiden, Geno, Kianna, Gustavo, and Kaito.
She will be missed.
