We are saddened to announce the passing of Roderick “Rod” Frederick Kennen on Dec. 11, 2023, at the age of 89. Rod was born in Waterbury Connecticut, the oldest son of 6 children.
Rod entered the U.S. Airforce and proudly served his country at various duty stations around the globe, including 4 tours of duty in Vietnam.
Rod ended his service in the military with the distinguished rank of Lt. Colonel at Loring Airforce Base in Maine. It is there where he met his forever love, Joan.
Upon retiring from the military, Rod and Joan turned to their love of travel and adventure, living, and sailing on their 40ft. Sailboat Columbine for many years from Maine throughout the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Alaska, eventually settling in Colorado.
Rod continued to pursue his love of nature as an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman.
Rod was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Eleanor Kennen, and brother Gary. Rod is survived by his love of more than 50 years, Joan, sons Terry and Guy, brother Hugh and sisters Karen (Evans), Luanne (Woerdeman), Wendy (Peters), daughter-in-law Cherie (Guy) and Granddaughter Kelsea (Guy).
Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the : Surface Creek Historical Society.
