Sandra Smith

Sandy Lee Smith passed away on December 17th, 2021. She was born Sandra Lee Adams in Montpelier, Idaho on Jan 23, 1946. She was the oldest of six children born to Jack and Dawna Adams.

As a child, Sandy was one of the youngest people to get open heart surgery. Surgeon Russell Nelson did the complex surgery. Nelson went on to be the leader of the LDS Church. Sandy’s story made the local news in Grand Junction, Colorado where she lived.

Sandy’s favorite past times were Drawing, Meditation and visiting with friends.

Sandy worked many years as a nurse’s aide and loved to entertain the residents with festive costumes and activities.

Sandy married Fred Watson and had two sons in the 1970’s. She divorced Fred in the 1980’s and married Donald Smith in the 1990’s.

Sandy is survived by her sister Kathy Lefler. Kathy is the last of the six Adams children. Her brothers, Mike, Mark, Jack, and Jeff passed away before Sandy.

Sandy’s is also survived by her two sons Eric and Brian. Eric lives in Phoenix with his wife Tonja and their two daughters, Emily, and Lilly. Brian lives in Denver with his wife Jennifer and their son Logan.

Sandy loved to laugh and always had a strong group of friends around her.

She is loved and missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends are planning to gather at the Memorial Grove of the Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado at 3PM on August 27th, 2022.

Sandy's ashes will be planted along with a tree in honor of her memory.
