Sharon Phyle

September 9, 1943 — July 10, 2020

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Sharon, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on July 10, 2020.

She left us while resting comfortably at the San Juan Living Center, Montrose, CO. She was in her 76th year.

She was born on September 9, 1943 in Alpena, South Dakota where she lived for the first 4 years of her life. In March of 1948, the family moved to a farm in Poplar, MN when they arrived neither the car nor the truck with all their belongings could make it through the snow on the old country road to the farm. Fortunately, a gentleman neighbor came to the rescue getting the family to their new home on a horse drawn bobsled…and that sense of fun and adventure sowed the gypsy seed that forever grew in her heart. She was never afraid to pick up roots and go where the winds of fortune took her. She lived in many places throughout Minnesota and eventually Colorado.

She is the beloved mother of Renee and Tanya, the proud grandmother of Jerimey his wife Bonnie and Joshua and his wife Danielle, great grandmother of Grady, Lydia, Ella, Ryder, Elsie and Ila.

Survived by her sister Marilyn and Predeceased by her Father Herman, Mother Lillian and brothers Ralph and Dale (Danny).

Sharon lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and true to her gypsy spirit as she would fondly say a “Jack of all Trades” working as a teacher for disabled adults, bartender, manager, waitress, seamstress, nail tech teacher. She was also a business owner of both a Sewer Sanitation company, and finally a Nail Tech business in service to the elderly.

She took great pride in her 47 year membership in the American Legion Auxiliary Ben Kreuger Post 49 in Pequot Lakes, MN. She served as Secretary, Chaplain, Treasurer and President. Her Presidents project there was to provide free swimming lessons to the area’s children. She fervently believed that every child living in the land of 10,000 lakes should know how to swim. That program started in her 1978-79 terms and continued to flourish for about 25 years..

She loved to cook, throw parties and get togethers for family and friends, who she saw as her extended family. “Family who eats together stays together!”, She kept an immaculate house, was highly skilled with knitting needles and crochet hooks, her afghans grace many of her family’s and friends’ homes her love woven into every stitch.

Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her daughters the strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed but lives forever in our hearts.

A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at Browns Cremation and Funeral Service, 904 North 7th Street, Grand Junction, CO on Wednesday July 22, 2020 beginning at 2:30 p.m.  All are invited to join the family for food and memories at the families home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family of the late Sharon Phyle acknowledges with sincere appreciation the comforting messages, donations to Karis House, and other expressions of kindness during this time of bereavement.
