Shirley A. Goss

d. August 22, 2021

Shirley A. Goss peacefully passed away on August 22,2021 at the age of 97. Her final days were spent in her home in Tucson, Arizona surrounded by family.

Shirley was born in Paxton, Illinois in 1923 to James Maile and Coyla Maile. Her father's job required them to move often when she was a child. Shirley was beautiful inside and out and was voted the prettiest little girl in Neoga, III.

Shirley graduated from High School in Englewood, Co. in 1941. It was in 1937 she met the love of her life, Richard Goss. They were HS sweethearts while attending Fruita HS. They married in 1943 and for 80 years lived a very adventurous life.

Shirley had so many talents, some not realized until she passed. She played the Clarinet in the Fruita HS band. She loved reading, writing poetry, painting, drawing, sewing, photography, playing cards and learning the computer and texting when she was in her 90's. But most of all she loved her family, friends and her animals. She wished to attend art school, however, the Navy deployed Richard for long periods of time away from the family. She unselfishly chose to devote her life to raising their son and daughter and supporting Richards Naval career. She was an extraordinary lady who lived life to its fullest with great passion, generosity and a wonderful sense of humor. She made sure her kids had every opportunity available in life. She faced every challenge that came her way with strength and compassion. She encouraged us, taught us right from wrong, to be and do our best and above all to always be honest.

She never met a stranger and always made everyone she met feel special and comfortable. She and Richard travelled to over 21 countries, making lifelong friendships. They loved to share their incredible memories, and everyone loved to hear them. They had a lifetime full of stories. Our world was a better place with Shirley in it and her legacy will never fade. She had a heart of gold and such a beautiful spirit. Life is fragile, loss is sudden, and our hearts are so broken. We will miss her forever.

She was survived by her husband, Richard, who passed away February 2024. Her son: Steven Goss (Margaret) Tucson, AZ. Daughter: Terri Cook (Tom) Grand Junction, Co. 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A Military Funeral for Shirley and Richard Goss will be held at the New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, Colorado at 11:00AM October 25, 2024.
