It was once written “you can’t miss Steve Laiche, as soon as the defense attorney walks into a room, the charm flows by the gallon”. No truer statement was ever written. Stephen Louis Laiche left this world on February 18, 2025. There he is reunited with his father, Felix, and mother, Kitty, whom he adored and admired beyond belief. He leaves behind 3 amazing children, Madeline (Maddie), Jackson (Jack) and Ellery (Ellie) along with two and ½ grandchildren, Stevie, Ryan and soon to be Carson Claire. All of whom he cherished and was incredibly proud. Stephen grew up in Hammond, Louisiana, the eldest of 7 children. He had amazing leadership qualities from the time he became an Eagle Scout, to being voted Student Government Association President, at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he graduated with a degree in English. He went on to Tulane University School of Law where he received his J.D. in 1978. Stephen loved New Orleans and worked under the New Orleans District attorney for 6 years and then the State Attorney General for 2 years. His path crossed a connection in Telluride, CO when he was on a bike trip and that encounter began his desire to venture west to Grand Junction where he began his career as a powerful criminal defense attorney whose style as a fierce litigator, plus a belief and passion for his clients was recognized statewide. Stephen loved cycling and did many trips with his 3 brothers. He even ventured to the Tour de France twice with his children.Stephen had so many friends each of which has their own unique “Stephen” story that will be cherished and remembered forever. He held deep love for his entire family, those 3 brothers(Tommy, Jimmy, Michael) whom he called his best friends, his 3sisters (Rachel, Cathy, Jeannie), and his 3 beautiful children and grandchildren who all inherited his charm (without) thatLouisiana accent! We will miss him dearly, but his soul endures with all of us forever. Memorial donations may be sent in Stephen’s name to Catholic Outreach of Grand Junction, https://www.catholicoutreach.org/donate.
