Stephen Minor Reay
February 19, 1945 — March 21, 2024
Stephen Minor Reay went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 21, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinsons. He was 79.
Steve was born in Dayton, Ohio, on February 19, 1945, to father, James Aloysious Reay and mother, Dixie Marie (Minor) Reay.
Steve graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1963. He graduated from Adams State College in 1969.
He enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1969 and served in Vietnam until February of 1971.
Following his discharge from the army, Steve used his degree in recreational therapy to improve the lives of fellow veterans at the Sheridan, Wyoming VA Hospital. Steve went on to write a book called, "The Forgotten Veterans," in an effort to bring attention to hospitalized vets.
Steve was a member of The Rock Church where he enjoyed greeting and being a part of the praise group. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He loved tennis, baseball, and attending CMU sporting events. Steve was a very outgoing man who enjoyed telling humorous stories.
Steve met his wife, Kay, while attending college and they were married on August 28, 1971, in Monte Vista, Colorado. Steve and Kay moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1972 and were later blessed to welcome their son, Darrin, and daughter, Allison. Steve was very proud of his children and included them in almost every conversation.
While his relationship with his family was very close, his relationship with his Lord and Savior was his greatest joy.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim Reay and John Reay, and nephew
Derrick Reay.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, son Darrin (Tara), daughter Allison (Brad), sisters Patty Miller, Penny Price (Dwain), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A military honors ceremony will be held on April 5, 2024, at 10:00, at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at The Rock Church, 2170 Broadway, at 11:30.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Wounded Warriors Foundation.
