When Steve was 5 years old, the family moved to Claremore, Oklahoma. Steve was your typical boy. He and his friends would run around the neighborhood, riding bicycles as well as motorcycles before ending up in the family swimming pool.
While in high school Steve mastered the xylophone and percussion in the Claremore High School Marching Band. He received his musical inspiration from his older brother. After high school Steve toured with several religious and secular bands.
Steve landed in Tulsa where he started his banking career as a bank teller, which he excelled at. It was time to start a family. Two beautiful daughters!
Another opportunity came along to work for a small mortgage company and see what he was able to do for their numbers. Steve was able to help them grow significantly.
In August 2013 Steve decided to move to Grand Junction, Colorado. He & Carla met September 1, 2013 and instantly fell in love - neither having any desire to be in another relationship. Carla had met her Prince Charming and Steve had met the Queen of his dreams. From the day they met, they rarely left each others side. They were married June 10, 2016. Steve was a volunteer serving local veterans breakfast and being enthralled with their stories.
One of Steve’s greatest enjoyments was to get on his Harley Davidson “Black Diamond” and take to the open road. He would ride alone, but preferred to have Carla with him.
His Mother Earlene preceded Steve in death. Steve leaves behind his wife Carla Fortner, his father Charles Richard Fortner Sr., his brother Charles Richard Fortner Jr., his daughter Jensen Fortner, and his daughter Madison Fortner.
